Success!

Posted on Jul 31, 2009 under General | No Comment

As you probably know Kevin and I do not have the gift of growing green things in our yard, or indoors for that matter.  Hence why our blog is named “brown thumb”.  But this morning I was taking Maggie outside in the backyard and my eyes just happened to glance over and see this:DSCF8015

A beautiful sight!  This is the first time one of our hydrangeas has bloomed since last July when we bought them.
This means that all hope is not lost…knock on wood ;)

My Pro Con List

Posted on Jul 29, 2009 under General, Teaching | 1 Comment

We all know how much I like bullet points =)
Just one short week from tomorrow I go back to school!

Things I am going to miss about summer:

  • The ability to take naps whenever I want to
  • Playing with my dog
  • Enjoying evenings with my husband and I don’t have work to do
  • Losing track of what day it is
  • Having time to make cakes
  • Exercising in the mornings

Things I am looking forward to for the school year:

  • Buying school supplies
  • Fall weather (my favorite!!)
  • Seeing my crazy kiddos again
  • Football season
  • Planning new activities for my classes
  • Kevin being done with school for good, and seeing him every night
  • Laminating things…I know I am such a nerd but I love it!
  • Using the new books I bought, and stuff I learned from Orff class

~Done with my random thoughts for now~

Here is my latest creation, made for Magen and Daniel’s baby shower at church:

I was quite pleased with how it turned out, and how it tasted!  I think I like this new icing recipe I’m using better than the first one.  Next on my to-do list: a “back to school” cake for each of my two schools.

Beach Fun

Posted on Jul 21, 2009 under General | 2 Comments

We had a good time in Destin this past weekend.  Mostly good weather and the water was gorgeous!  It was so nice to sleep in, relax, and eat way too much yummy food.  The only down side was we missed our dog.  A lot.  We even saw a puppy on the beach that looked just like Maggie, except he was a boy, and then we would start to get sad.  But thanks to our wonderful friends for watching her.

OKay so I know you really just want to see the pictures, right?

Kevin says my ’stance’ looks just like the giraffe in the picture, but I am about to hit my only hole in one!

That about sums it up ~ great weekend, now back to reality.

July 4th Weekend

We had a great time in Tennessee this past weekend.  I think July 4th is my new favorite holiday!  Just a nice time to relax with friends and family, enjoy good food, and watch the fireworks.  The puppies also had a great time =)
