Happy Birthday to You

Posted on Feb 15, 2010 under Maggie | 1 Comment

Yesterday on Valentine’s Day our sweet Maggie magoo turned two years old.  We celebrated by taking her to the park; yes it was cold but we haven’t been in months!  Kevin and I enjoyed her little cake and she got to lick a few crumbs off my lap.  She is such a goober but we love her to death.  Maggie is “good at heart” as we like to say.  Here’s to many more years of sticking her nose under the covers and thumping her tail against the bed to wake me up, making funny animal sounds (note I didn’t say dog sounds), licking our hands non-stop, chasing the squeaky ball for hours on end, and cuddling on the couch.

See the accurate portrayal of her tongue always sticking out?

Snow for the first time in Alabama made it a special weekend!

I tried desperately to get a picture of Maggie in the snow but this was the best I could do.  She is not a fan of holding still for pictures.  Especially when there is funny white stuff to sniff.

There that’s better.  She is much more content on the warm couch.  Happy birthday to you!

Help, My dog won’t eat

I figured I would share what’s going on with Maggie because I know that many of you who read this have your own dogs.  So if there is any advice you can offer, please feel free!

This started around 2 weeks ago.  All of a sudden one day Maggie just showed no interest in eating.  She does not appear to be sick in any way; she acts completely normal except for eating.  I don’t think she’s lost weight because we have been forcing her to eat.  She is on a 3 meal daily schedule.  But it’s very frustrating because it’s like we’re trying to convince a small child to eat.  We don’t exactly make airplane noises with a spoon, but we pretend to eat it and make yummy sounds or we’ll have her do tricks so she thinks she’s being treated.  And she just acts so pitiful.  This is the dog who used to scarf down everything- even to the point where I had to feed her before taking her out to the bathroom when I get home because that’s how much she loved to eat.  Now when we put food out she just gets all sulky and her ears go down and she gets the puppy eyes like “why are you making me do this?”

So here are some conclusions for you, and let’s see if we can figure out what’s going on with Maggie?

  • She went to the vet less than a month ago for a routine check-up.  No worms and everything looked fine.
  • We have always given her the same dry dog food, absolutely NO table scraps.  The only treat she gets are milk bones.  I usually give her 1/2 of one before bedtime just to hold her stomach.
  • We did just buy a new bag of food (the same brand) when she started acting weird.  Possibly it was a bad batch of food?  But how can we tell, we have nothing to compare it to?
  • I read online that we should try mixing in something like beef broth, chicken, etc.  But I don’t want to get her used to something if it’s not necessary.  Like I said we have been very strict about only giving dry dog food.

Well I’m all out of ideas!  What do you think??

Could there be a more precious sight to my eyes?  I don’t think so.

Our sweet, crazy little Maggie Magoo is turning one year old today!  It’s amazing to think how much she has changed since we got her last April.  We used to be constantly stressed about her ‘puppy antics’.  Well sometimes we still are ;) but she really is just so much fun and silly and makes us laugh all the time.  (Note: she is not so fun when she’s eating Kevin’s pizza…more on that later)

The best thing about Maggie: she is a major cuddler! I debated on whether or not to post this picture because it’s not exactly flattering of me, but it’s just too cute.

This morning we celebrated by taking her to Petsmart.  She got those long nails cut, and a new squeaky ball!  Her old one has so many holes in it that it no longer makes noise.  She is delighted.

Here’s to many more years of fun, craziness, and love.

Life Lately

Okay I know, I am a horrible blogger.  And I know life is usually busy but this month has been extra busy, I promise!  This weekend I am so excited that we have nothing to do.  Well except for lots of school work but at least no where to go.  SO since I only wrote one post in all of January, let me try to catch you up on life.

We went to Georgia for another weekend with our married friends, plus got to meet baby Jake for the first time!

What a cutie!

The Group

This is only like our second “group” picture ever, which is surprising considering how many times we’ve gotten together to visit.

Cooper and Maggie

Maggie had a great time with her friend Cooper.

Last weekend we went to Pigeon Forge with our Community Group and it was lots of fun.  Kevin and I also ran into our pastor Tim while driving the church van, haha.  (We had to take the “late bus” and drove the luggage with us.)  He thought we were just out cruising on a Friday night ;)

Mosaic couples

Here’s us with a few of the couples from our group.  Love you all!
Pigeon Forge

Me and Kevin in Pigeon Forge. We spent most of the day walking around in town.  Kevin was sad he wasn’t able to get his giant 1000 calorie corndog because we never carry any cash.  I guess we have learned our lesson.  I was, however, able to chow down on a caramel candy apple which was soo yummy!

Now we are back in Birmingham, life as usual.  It’s funny to think about what “usual” means for us now that we have a dog.  Last night was date night (like every Thursday) but we don’t necessarily have to go out on date night.  Often we just stay in and cook, but we focus on spending the whole evening together + Maggie.  After our romantic dinner we embarked on about 20 minutes of both of us chasing her around the dining room table.  She is just the happiest dog ever.  Here’s the proof:

She’s hiding under the table thinking “Haha!  I won!”

I plan to spend a later post talking about how great our dog is (her birthday is in two weeks).  But for now let me just say how fun she is, and how much we laugh because of her.

The two loves in my life =)
